My wife and I are expecting a baby boy probably any day now. Well, maybe more like any week now. He’s nearly due but it always could be a bit longer, I suppose. I know that I’m showing my hand here, but I really don’t know how these things are supposed to work. We’ll see! (And I’ll be sure to let you know.)
Either way, among the abundant and gracious gifts people have given to the little fella there’s one present that he’s not going to get his mitts on just yet: this late 19th century edition of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “Wonder-Book” re-telling of Greek myths illustrated by Frederick Stuart Church.
I’ve had this treasure safely tucked away on my studio bookshelves for a while now but I thought I’d crack it open and share a few pages.

I joined Muddy Colors as a regular contributor this time last year and goodness, I’ve had a great time. As a long time reader it’s been a thrill to get to throw my thoughts out here once a month (sometimes twice a month)! Thank you Dan for having me here and thank you, readers, for putting up with it!

Congratulations to you and your wife on the coming birth of your Son Cory.
When we had our daughter people came up to us and always said she’ll grow fast and to enjoy the time your have.
I always wondered about those folks at that time… but they were right. SO many wonderful moments to hang on to…
My daughter has helped me keep the innocence of fresh eyes, the wondering mind, and immense imagination of childhood.

Thank you for your contributions to Muddy colors and for sharing Hawthorne’s Book. I bought a book from Scholastic on greek mythology in the 6th grade, (about 1978?) Mr Peterson our teacher spent most of the year in social studies teaching us about the Greeks and Romans. The book had a picture of a boy riding a dolphin. I had just re-found it and was going to start reading it to my daughter a couple years ago and some how lost it again… I wish I had my daughters ability to remember things.
I’m rambling…. So I will end it here – hang on to that book closely and beware of the mischievous pixies…
