In case you had some extra cash lying around, or if not, then an afternoon to spend, Sotheby’s has a wonderful collection of art on exhibit for a Fall auction this coming November 6th.  Some of my favorites from browsing online are sampled below.  While these works are pulled together for the needs of the auction, the overall abundance of quality turns this from a mere sales exhibit to a stunning show of 19th Century Art that rivals the collection from many museums!

I may see you early this week on the upper east side of Manhattan…

Sotheby’s November 6th
auction of 19th Century European Art in New York brings together the
very best examples by celebrated artists from this diverse collecting
category. Highlights include discoveries such as Franz von Stuck’s
iconic symbolist masterpiece Die Sünde, as well as important
Orientalist subjects by Ludwig Deutsch and Frederick Arthur Bridgman,
and major paintings by Jean Baptiste Camille Corot, Federico
Zandomeneghi, Joaquín Sorolla, William Bouguereau and Jean Leon Gérôme,
among others. A period life-sized Mannequin Articulé will also be
offered, providing insight into the process of creation in a 19th century artist’s studio.
