Hey all,

Got kind of an interesting submission this month continuing on with the Aesop Rock theme. On the last album cover I did for him, the special edition had lights in laid into the packaging and it played a song so there was a running joke about how we were going to try to make this one more complicated. at some point, I realized I’m building all of these 3-D assets for the packaging art, so it probably wouldn’t be that much more work to take this stuff and put it in unreal engine and try to turn it into like a little interactive thing where people could dig a little further into the album concept and maybe sample some snippets or whatever. I pitched the idea to Aesop and he seemed into it so then we pitched it to the record label and they seemed into it too.

Was able to get everything into unreal and get like a preliminary lighting pass before finding an experienced technical artist developer who could help me make it into an actual thing.

So slowly over the course of several months, we built this interactive black hole Superette video game. There’s an inventory viewer so you can pick up most of the items (which I made all the labels for) and look at them. You can sample one minute snippet from the entire album, which, if you get all 18 of them, it will unlock one of several special messages. There’s an atm that you can buy exclusive merch out of as well. All in all it’s just kind of a weird quirky and surprisingly effective supplemental marketing piece for fans to wander around in.
