This is fascinating. And presents an interesting link to a post I've been working on. The increasing productivity and efficiency of our technology as well as our human selves. Thanks for posting Dan
A three minute video? I have too much work to do to watch that. Besides I haven't checked Tumblr for cat updates in last two minutes – I should get on that.
This video's visuals and talk moved so quickly that I had no idea what he was trying to say. A lot of internet video content is superfast like this and it really annoys me.
Pyracantha – there is a link in the video description on youtube to an accompanying article. It has all of the information there if you would prefer to read it.
Fascinating indeed! I guess I've been reading about productivity for long enough now (thank you, David Allen) that I subconsciously used a lot of these strategies to meet my most recent deadline. Thanks very much for posting this.
I don't agree with everything in this. I get nervous anytime someone says “studies show” with respect to human behavior, because people are so different. For example, there are other ways of keeping yourself accountable than charting/writing down your progress, and I prefer the less traditional route because I've found I stall on projects more often when I make things “official” by writing them down. And multitasking, that reminds me of the anecdote from Milt Kahl that artists/animators shouldn't listen to music while they work. It's just not true for everybody. I do agree that starting the project is usually the biggest barrier.
I enjoyed listening to that… most things I already do as that video suggests and it works fine for me. I don't do the accountability chart as that really doesn't apply in my situation. Of course this method doesn't mean it's going to work for everyone but there's some really sound advice in there. That's why some smart fella invented post-it stickers so we slackers can become more productive!
Ego Depletion…yeah, I know where there coming from on that one, except I call it mental burnout.
