big lawn painting part 2

Thursday, August 24th, 2023

Finally got through the underpainting on this piece.

Took long enough, haha. Sometimes, there’s no shortcuts and you just gotta crawl along and try not to lose sight of the big picture.

This is sort of the heavy lifting stage where I get the drawing and general values figured out. From here on out, my aim is to drop in some color, and flesh out the forms without losing what I liked in the underpainting.

Here are a few detail shots. I really try not to render at this stage, I find things work better with using abstraction and flatter local values to describe objects.

Looking forward to next steps though I feel like I prolly have at least a month before it’s dry enough to start glazing into.

Did a quick test and digitally glazed some colors on, just so I have some general idea of what I want to use.

Fun times!
