Wow, I have been a part of many magic the Gathering sets, but I have to say the Bloomburrow expansions is one of my favorites. So many great artists. Everyone brought their A game. Maybe because we didn’t have to worry about humanoid figures there was less pressure? Maybe it was the charming animal versions of iconic MTG cards? Maybe we were all fans of The Secret of Nimh? (Look it up if you don’t know it!) I don’t know my friends, but working on it was such a treat for me and I imagine everyone involved. You can feel the joy in everyone’s work.
This one is ‘Sylvan Tutor’. Which is a pretty famous MTG card, maybe even before I started working for them! It was an honor to do a Tutor for sure.
Pretty dang cool they used it on the packaging.
And here is the process video.
Hope y’all dig it. let me know in the comments! It is small for me at 16X20. After an acrylic wash we go full oilpaint.
