Congratulations to John Picacio for winning this year’s Hugo for Best Professional Artist!

Having been nominated for years, this is John’s first time winning, and deservedly so. This was a particularly stellar year for John, having created 12 new pieces for George R. R. Martin’s official ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ calendar.

Hey, Dan — You're gonna have one of these rockets with your name on it. It's coming. I hope I'm in the audience to cheer it on that day. This was my eighth nomination and I finally broke through that ceiling. I believe Donato finally broke through and snagged his on his sixth or seventh nomination. Some artists win it quickly (like Shaun Tan and Stephan). Some artists have to wait a while (like me and Donato). Some artists never get a sniff. You're gonna get there. I believe it.

Congrats on the Dragon*Con GoH gig. You had a killer art booth, and I loved the piece you did for the program book cover. Way to go, man.

I appreciate the love. Holler anytime. 🙂
