After the Dance : Time-Lapse

Friday, January 5th, 2018

I am currently teaching a workshop at the Scottsdale Artists’ School in Arizona, focusing on creating master copies. It is a great class to teach and Arizona is heavenly in the winter. Because this week is filled with teaching (and not time for much else), I am going to share a time-lapse for my painting After the Dance.

I completed the painting almost a year ago, but it was published in Paint and Draw Magazine so I haven’t been able to distribute the associated materials until now. I am excited to share this one if I am honest.

I feel like this was an important painting for me. It has opened up doors mentally that I am working to step through now. Thanks for taking a look and I would love to hear your thoughts and am happy to answer questions.

Howard

I've been working away at Chapter 3 of my comic Cut Flowers, but while that's cooking I did a 2-page prologue to give readers a little more about our ghost, Jamie. I hope you enjoy these!

Nice, Howard. It took me longer than I’ll admit to learn to block in in large general sections before starting to begin refining. Your work on this painting helped validate where I seem to be headed. Thanks.

You have to seal the wood, with either an acrylic or oil ground. Each has their own benefits and downsides, though acrylic is most common.
