Perspective is important, but its feeble strength is easily defeated by a world made up of complex and irregular forms. Learn your perspective! But don’t rely on it for the illusion of form and space.
Review: VR Sketch Transfer
I hate transferring my sketch. I hate it. Every method I have found is tedious. Projectors and transfer paper lose important small details, and to get out of the way of the projection, I lean and bend in unnatural positions for long periods of time. There's more, but...

Cannot disagree more.
Well, shapes are indeed that important, specially when it comes to the finished art.
But what creates, or emphasize these shapes?
Well, guess what, it’s perspective.
Perspective can lie if you use it incorrectly, or if you use it to a specific purpose (for example the works of MC Escher).
If you put a grid on example D from the first image, you’ll see that B is closer to A.
Simple as that.
So it comes down in how you use it, rather than the perspective itself.
I would say that using perspective and shapes is the best combo to create a great illusion of form and space.
