Moebius Drawing

Sunday, August 5th, 2012

In preparation for his then upcoming retrospective Transe Forme, Fondation Cartier recorded Moebius doing a series of digital drawings. Recorded in late 2010, these are some of, if not, the last recordings of Moebius drawing that we are likely to see. Since his death this past March, it’s a rare treat to discover anything new from the Artist. Enjoy!

During my classes online, I’m asked by students over and over again, ‘show me how I can improve my paintings.’ Besides needing to get better at drawing, paint mixing and application, composition, and value control-- handling light is the most overlooked aspect of...

I'm 60 years old. I was totally mesmerized by Moebius when I discovered him through “Heavy Metal” magazine way back when I just a yung'un at the age of 23. He totally changed my art style and the way I saw lines and colors.

However, these videos are another revelation as I am rather amazed at how Moebius approached his projects. It's simply amazing. He goes for the details first, the bigger picture has to wait. Stunning. Challenging. I will have to try this approach.

Its nice to know that even the GREAT artists don't get it right the first time. Moebius rocks.. Loved his art in Heavy Metal.
