By Justin Gerard
Last post I showed a few studies for a demo I was scheduled to do at Utah Valley University. I am back and today I will show how the painting progressed and eventually turned out.

Detail and Final Adjustments
I didn’t get to the Detail and Final Adjustment stage in the demo because I am slow.  This piece is relatively simple, but even still it ends up taking a little over 30 hours for me to finish. (Which was too long for the students because they apparently have other, non-art-related classes they are forced to go to.)
I will repeat Lesson #2 from the lecture: Draw all of the time.  Especially in your non-art-related classes.
The lecture itself went well and only once did technology stab me in the back. (I’ll get you Bill Gates if it’s the last thi..)
No, really it was great. Nobody got shot or mauled or anything. I wish that every time I go speak in public it could go as smoothly.
It was a ton of fun and I hope to get the chance to visit again in the future.

    Amazing piece, love the cloth:)

Superb, once again. The cloth is especially well done, so are the glows and the shadows 'melting' together. Love it!

Looks great Justin! If you are ever going to be anywhere near the Nashville area doing any lectures please let me know. I will be there, probably camping out on the campus before you arrive!

I love the color scheme you chose for this too, by the way. It's really different but it's effective. I'm really trying to branch out with color these days – it's all too easy to muddy up the image with sub-par color choices. Good stuff!

Beautiful work, I have a question was this done entirely in traditional paints or were the final touches digital??

I wish I could have been there for the demo. sigh… ( I can't believe students have to go to non-art classes either!!! so lame!) I love the repeated shapes in the rock's texture and the story of it. I wonder where she is going and if this snail is friends with her or an oblivious mode of transportation. I'm also curious if this is traditional +digital or just digital.

the values alone are brilliant. Beautiful work.

That's a pretty cool demo you have there. The UVU students should see how much work goes into developing an idea from start to finish.
