MoCCA Arts Fest 2023

This coming weekend, March 16-17, 2024 will see the latest running of the MoCCA Arts Festival by the Society of Illustrators in Manhattan, New York City.  The event is a celebration of comics art and related works and originated when the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) was a separate entity over a decade ago.

The festival is now into it’s fourth year at the Metropolitan Pavilion which features a large tabled floor populated with ~200 creatives and programming events running in a nearby venue.  It is a wonderful place to talk with new and established creators and take in a taste of alternative narrative comic arts.  Last year the entry lines ran around the block, so get your tickets early online!

Fundraising Auctions!

For those who cannot make it to MoCCA Fest, here are some other arts to enjoy online.  I have donated two pieces for two different fundraisers.

The first is a graphite preliminary concept for a cover commission of a short story by Shane Tourtellotte, Truta and Pilta, for Analog SF Magazine, August 2022. The proceeds will go towards helping Locus Magazine and the science fiction and fantasy community they provide voice to.
Bidding begins Wednesday March 13th and closes on the 20th.

The second is a charity auction very dear to heart. This is for a Magic: the Gathering card commission of Inkshield featuring Sheldon Menery, one of the founders of the Commander style of game play which has take the Magic world by storm.  Sheldon passed away in September, losing his years long fight with cancer.

As a cancer survivor myself I wanted to commemorate the help and joy Sheldon provided to millions of players through his work as a judge and passionate player.  I will be auctioning off the original oil painting of Sheldon with proceeds of the sale split between his preferred charity The American Cancer Society, and my targeted institution, The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which helped me in my treatments.

The auction will be run through the Facebook Group, the MtG Art Marketplace, starting Saturday March 16th and ending Sunday March 24th.

I will have a link here live on Saturday.  Both works will be featured at my Booth (035, 036) at MoCCA Fest.
