March 28, 2023 - At your local hardware store, you will see paint colors with all sorts of names. Kettle black, Frosted Toffee, Aqua, but artists don’t refer to color this way. The reason is simple, it’s confusing! When you hear “Periwinkle” everyone has their own interpretation of what that color looks like. Artists have a system for naming colors to avoid these problems altogether. When describing a color, we can do so in two parts. Let’s take the color Red-violet for example.  RED-VIOLET The second word, “violet” refers to the general hue you see. This is going to be one of the secondary colors. Orange, Green, Violet.
