I recently did a couple traditional drawing demonstration videos on Twitch, featuring a Halloween battle scene I am working on this month.

The videos are up on my Twitch here if you’d like to check them out:

PART 1 : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/759799041

PART 2 : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/761688583

And for a bonus, I also did a special JUSTIN GERARD ROASTS JUSTIN GERARD Episode as well: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/756802084  In it I give a postmortem for an image that I finished, but was never been totally satisfied with. I talk about what went right, what went wrong, and how it helped me make better images thereafter.

Concept artwork for The Scorpkin Battle

This new image that I am working on, The Scorpkin Battle, has been a chance to tackle something light-hearted and fun, while at the same time trying something larger and more challenging! The image features 2 monsters I had designed previously, but had never really had a chance to fully develop and show in their element. The Scorpkin, and the Chatterpillar.

This is going to be a lot of fun to work on and is a project I have been eagerly waiting to start all year.  I will be drawing and painting the entire image LIVE this month, Mondays and Wednesdays at 5PM EST through the end of October. The drawing is traditional pencil on Strathmore bristol and the color work will be painted digitally in Photoshop.  It is 30 or so figures (well…creatures) and a lot of chaos! It is going to be a lot of fun. We will be discussing tips and tricks for getting the most out of your pencils, color comps, playing with textures and taking it all to final.

I hope you enjoy the videos and will join us for a future Twitch stream! They are always a lot of fun, relentlessly positive, occasionally informative, mostly sober, and only rarely involve me ruining a painting and then weeping under the table for an hour while my pets sit judging me from across the room.
